Founded in Leicester in 1914 pex is currently the UK's leading children's sock and tight brand, with over 50 per cent of the children's branded hosiery market according to the latest figures from Taylor Nelson Sofres Fashiontrak. In addition to hosiery pex branded products now include children's clothing, underwear, babywear, bibs and most recently special occasion wear such as christening gowns. pex brand products are currently sold to over 1,500 retailers throughout the UK and Eire in addition to export customers in Scandinavia, Hong Kong, the Eastern Mediterranean and the Middle East. Leading customers include the National Schoolwear Centre, Harrods and AIS.
pex returned to UK ownership in 2004 after a successful management buy out, MBO, led by John Norton, the company's general manager of the past six years. John Norton, who spearheaded the brand's dramatic return to profitability over the past three years, acquired the company in partnership with senior chartered accountant Jim Kirkman.
pex has used its unparalleled expertise in children's hosiery design to develop products that are ideally suited to the robust back to school sector. Its socks and tights are manufactured using hand-linked 'super comfort' flat toe seams that are usually only found in expensive men's socks. This design eliminates bulky toe seams promoting a better shoe fit and maximising all day comfort. Produced in premium quality cotton yarn and technical fibre mixes pex products allow busy feet to breathe while withstanding repeated wear and washing without pilling, stretching or shrinking. Such features as reinforced heels and toes, soft sock tops, high Lycra content and variable rib sizes maximise comfort and fit.
